Two years of planning is finally paying off for the Airdrie Legion.

The City of Airdrie will receive a decommissioned LAV III (Light Armoured Vehicle) as monument to honor young veterans.

"This Light Armoured Vehicle is a monument to our Afghan and Bosnian veterans, the young veterans of today, not the WWI, or the WWII." said veteran Bob McNevin.

Airdrie and the Legion will receive Alberta's first LAV III, following its refurbishment in London, Ont. It will be placed outside of the Airdrie Museum.

Costing $50,000, the project will cost the City nothing, due to generous donations and contributions.

"We really, really, love our young men and women who served in Afghanistan, Bosnia, Yugoslavia, all those places." said McNevin.

The monument's unveiling will most likely coincide with the opening of Branch 288's new building.
