If you travel along the QEII north of Airdrie, you might be wondering what's happening with all the construction.

Anna Neale, spokeswoman with Alberta Transportation and Infrastructure explains the big work they're completing.

"Paving and ramp work is underway on the QEII Highway from Highway 567 to north ofHighway 2A and the Highway 72 interchange. What we're doing is about 13 kilometres of highway in either direction is being widened from 4 to 6 lanes."

Neale also says that from August 21st to the 31st, Alberta Infrastructure will also be working on repair work to the Dickson-Stevenson rest area, which means the location and the exit from southbound QEII will be closed for that time.

The new paving will mean a couple additional lanes for both northbound and southbound traffic, and it could be quite a while before it's finished.

"Paving work is expected to be completed early this winter with final paving next spring. It's quite an extensive piece of work they're doing which is why it's going to take a little bit of time"

Neale says that during the construction, some lane closures will be in effect from 8pm to 6am.

The total cost of the project, not including the work on the Dickson-Stevenson rest area, is around $35 Million.
