Christina Von Beeker is an Airdrie mom who has a son that had a passion for music and a desire to learn to play the drums.

Due to financial constraints, Beeker was not able to afford to buy her son a drum kit.

Beeker was so determined to give her son the opportunity to take music lessons that she looked into creating a community initiative to raise money for local music programs.

Along her journey, Beeker discovered that the process to start her own initiative was lengthy. After turning to a friend, she learned about the Barry Penny Foundation in Calgary who supplies under privileged kids with instruments and music lessons.

"There was a gentleman named Barry Penny that had a love for children, and wrote songs for children, and went to Peru, and did all sorts of fundraisers to raise money to help kids."

Beeker reached out to the foundation to offer to help fundraise for the program as well as obtain funding for her son.

Within a week, Beekers son had a drum kit set up in the basement and was on his way to becoming the next Neil Peart of Rush.

Beeker has been so inspired by the foundation that she has held multiple fundraisers with all proceeds going to the Barry Penny Foundation.

On September 17, Beeker is hosting another fundraiser called Northbound Crawl to K-OZ, with tickets still available.
