A mental health awareness event scheduled to be put on by the Thumbs Up Foundation featuring former Great Big Sea member Sean McCann on Saturday, June 10, is one of many events impacted by the closure of the Town and Country Centre.

Due to water damage caused by heavy rains on Sunday (June 4), the event cannot be held at the T&C. Kim Titus, Founder and Chair of the Thumbs Up Foundation, said they are working hard to make alternate arrangements.

"The City has been amazing in trying to help us regroup, and Woodside Golf Course has stepped forward and offered us their venue, so we've had to take a detour."

Unfortunately, the new venue is smaller than the T&C.

"What we've decided is that we'll refund all ticket purchasers back a full refund, and then we've asked them to email either SLAM or Etix Now to let them know whether they plan to attend the upcoming event," said Titus.

Despite the left turn, Titus said there is a silver lining.

"I just think it showcases the spirit within our community, that when life throws you a curve ball, it's just coming together and making the best of what you can. We appreciate everyone's understanding and patience."

Tickets for the event on Saturday are available on a first come, first serve basis. Instead of admission, Thumbs Up foundation is asking attendees to make a donation at the door. Doors open for the event at 7:00pm.
