Rocky View Schools are benefiting from the help of a Community Peace Coordinator who works within the division.

Jennifer Johnston, Peace Coordinator from Community Links is currently dedicating three days a week at WG Murdoch in Crossfield.

Johnston works within the school to offer support for bullying and building healthy relationships between friends and peers.

"Helping students build those skills for working through problems in those relationships, and just kind of having those abilities to see what the problem is and know how to work through it and problem solve."

There are a handful of Peace Coordinators throughout the Province that each vary in how they conduct the program. For Johnston, she could invest up to three years in one school.

"The idea is to be in the one school for up to three years to kind of establish, like helping the students and the school kind of be able to, like the end result is for them to be able to deal with situations and problems themselves, like building up those skills over those three years."

This is the first year Johnston has begun working with WG Murdoch, but before this year she worked for a year and a half at the K-8 school Good Shepherd in Airdrie.

Johnston said that the program includes liaising with other community resources to help students who may need additional support.
