As the weather continues to warm up, the snow quickly melts, which means an increased risk of flooding in your home or backyard.

Mayor Peter Brown expects that the City will receive many calls about flooding and says the first thing you can do is clear drain swales of any snow or debris.

The quick melting snow could lead to flooding on roads, backyards and basements

“Because they’re designed to take the flow but they’re not when there’s obstructions in the way. I really encourage people to make sure that they’re clear. If there’s any ice or things like that, you want to chip that away and get it off there.”

Mayor Brown says if you happen to see any flooding occurring in your neighbourhood, you can call them directly.

“If you’ve seen specific flooding, obviously you can contact us here at the City. As long as everything is cleared up you should be fine but again if you’re having a significant issue you can certainly call us.”
