It's becoming the new social norm and it appears to be growing.

A recent survey discovered that more young people and their families are pulling the plug on their TV's and opting to watch their favourite programs online.

"It's good because a lot of local filmmakers and people who kind of are in this scene, it's kind of a good way to get their art and their vision seen." said Airdrie filmmaker Mitch George.

George said he's worked with several aspiring film makers who use online servers as more of a network than a form of entertainment.

"It's like kinda hosting your own screening party online where anybody can see it at anytime...the internet is world wide, you never know who's gonna run across your work."

George anticipates that the trend won't go away anytime soon and embraces the opportunities they provide for him and the film and television industry.
