Another group of Meadowbrook Grade 8 students are getting excited to head east.

French teacher Pam Garnett has organized the school's annual Quebec trip for 25 years, and she says it is a tremendous opportunity for the students.

"They get to use their French a little bit, they get to hear French, and it's mainly just the language and the history that comes to life for them."

Garnett says that immersing students in the language and seeing some of Canada's history up close brings the French and Social Studies curriculum to life for the students. She expressed a small amount of sadness that the trip is always at the end of the year and she can't build on the experience in her classroom.

"I do hear from the high school teachers that the student's talk about it all the time."

Garnett believes the trip is a great value to the students.

"The whole experience just opens doors for them, it encourages them to travel, it encourages them to accept other cultures and just be more open-minded about the country we live in."

The group will fly East on Friday (May 13), and come home on May 19. The trip includes stints in Quebec City, Montreal and Ottawa.
