McDonald’s USA and Canada released a voluntary recall notice Tuesday, August 23, for their Step-it Activity Bands distributed in Happy Meals and Mighty Kids Meals.

In partnership with Health Canada, McDonald's is looking into the cause of skin rashes and burns on children's arms when wearing the bands.

"Nothing is more important to us than the safety and well-being of our customers, which is why upon learning about concerns with these bands we acted swiftly to stop distribution of these products," said Terri Hickey, a spokesperson for McDonald's in a press release.

Approximately 33 million Step-it Activity Bands were manufactured for distribution but due to the quick release of the recall, many of the wrist bands have not been distributed to customers.

"We are now asking customers who have the activity bands to stop wearing them and return to any McDonald’s for a free replacement toy and a choice of a yogurt or apple slices," said Hickey.
