A local High School student is celebrating after his unique idea won him a seat in the Mayor's Chair.

W.H. Croxford student Jordan Hawes was named the High School winner for this year's Mayor For A Day Challenge.

Hawes is congratulated by Mayor Peter Brown at City Council

Hawes says that his winning idea is one that can help many other students in the city.

"My idea was basically free or substantially cheaper public transportation for Airdrie's youth, Middle School and High School."

The idea is one that Hawes came up with because it's something he faces every day.

"I take public transit to school everyday and I pay 40 bucks a month for a pass and I figured that might be too expensive for other kids."

Hawes also hopes that the free or subsidized fees can also apply to low income families in Airdrie.

The Croxford student will have his chance to sit in the Mayor's Chair in early July.
