As if there wasn't enough to keep him busy running a city of over 68,000 people, now Mayor Peter Brown is giving out free recycling advice.

The mayor says there's a good reason for that though, It's because lately, the city's recycling contractors have had to give out what he calls"Oops" tags because of overfilled blue carts.

"We don't have to worry so much about the green carts, but certainly with the blue bins, I know people are getting the best use out of the blue box.  We get into some trouble when they're overfilled, the carts.  These are an automated system with these truck.  There's usually one driver, there's no one outside.  If there's cardboard lying beside the box they will not pick it up."

Brown goes on to say there is a simple solution to the problem.  Wait for the next recycling day, or take your excess down to the city's recycling depot.

"I'd encourage people to either wait to cut it up and put it into the next load or bring it down to the recycling centre and they'll gladly take it there."

Brown says there have been a few tags put out for recycling mistakes.  Because the system is automated, it won't work with overfilled carts.  The overfilled carts, with lids open, let in snow and reduce the quality of the cardboard.

Brow's final bit of recycling advice.  "Don't overflow your carts, make sure the lids can close and all is good."
