Mayor Peter Brown announced that a budget has been set for 2017.

After deliberations by the Council Budget Committee took place on November 25 and 26, Mayor Brown said that the capital budget will be about $37 million and the operating budget will be about $130 million. Taxes will increase by 0.63%.

Water utility rates will also increase due to increases from Calgary.

"We're introducing the blue box program this year," said Mayor Brown, "And that will add about $7 to the waste and recycling bill."

The budget still needs to be ratified at the City Council meeting on December 5, but as the committee is comprised entirely of Airdrie Councillors, Mayor Brown is confident it will be ratified.
