With March being fraud prevention month, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) released names of the top 10 scams from 2016.

Leah Brownridge, with BBB says that being careful with who you're giving your personal information to is one of the main ways to avoid being a victim to a scam artist.

Brownridge also advises you to check their website url's to make sure they begin with "https", she says this is how you can tell if a website is legitimate.

There are a large variety of scams, however, the most common scams in 2016 were online dating services, which took $17 million from people. Another popular one was wire fraud, also known as spearphishing, which took $13 million.
