Airdrie’s Ryan Straschnitzki is continuing his recovery in Philadelphia and is literally making big steps.

Ryan’s Dad Tom posted a video on Social Media recently showing Ryan using a treadmill with the help of his therapists.

Tom spoke about Ryan's recovery and how his determination isn’t slowing down.

“Ryan really wants to go home so he asked the doctor and his therapists what he needs to do to get his check marks to get home. They were a little shocked so they told him and he goes ‘ok, I’ll work on it over the weekend’.” Tom laughs as Ryan doesn't have rehab work on the weekends.

Tom says that Ryan is about four weeks ahead of schedule with his rehabilitation which doesn’t surprise him one bit.

“I always knew that he had the heart and the drive because we instill that in all our kids. Laziness gets you nowhere and they understand that. He goes above and beyond when he’s set on something he’s gonna complete it. It’s just amazing.”

The video of Ryan with the treadmill isn’t the first time that the family has shared his progress on Social Media. Tom says that it’s amazing to compare all the videos and see the progress that Ryan’s made.

“We’ve been here exactly one month today (June 28th). We’re watching video from last month until now and we’re just amazed at what he’s accomplished.”

If all works out, Ryan could be finished in Philadelphia and on his way home to Airdrie by next week. The final decision though needs approval by doctors at the Shriners Hospital.
