Students and Staff at Windsong Heights Schools are hoping to win a unique $10,000 grant for a big project.

“The grant that we are applying for is to get funds to support a local artist residency. Her name is Kaitlyn Bodowitz,” says Kindergarten Teacher Ali Apels, “She’ll be leading the staff and students at our school in the creation of a collaborative community mural. Every student, every staff member will have a part in the completion of this art piece.”

The grant is being offered through the Aviva Community Fund and is decided on the popular vote.

Fellow Kindergarten Teacher Taylor Patten explains why they’re choosing to pursue this mural project.

“We’re wanting to do something that everyone can be involved with. We’re hoping to work around themes of connection, a sense of belonging, uniting our diverse community. We mainly just hope that this mural serves as a legacy piece for years to come.”

Patten also says that the school has embraced this project and is hoping that parents, community members and other staff with Rocky View Schools will help contribute.

The deadline to vote is this Thursday (October 4th), you find the official voting page on this website.
