Four organizations received big donations last week after another successful golf tournament for the Airdrie Oilmen's Association.

President of the Association Adrian Pruden said the tournament has been held annually for the past 15 years. He said that from the first year of the tournament until now, supporting local causes is the big focus.

"Everything that we've done since that day, we've basically kept the bedroom type communities and charities on our radar and put all of the money that we've had from those events to those particular charities."

This year the AOA presented cheques to the Airdrie Food Bank, Community Links and the Airdrie and District Victims Assistance Society (ADVAS). Money was also donated to the Calgary Firefighters Burn Treatment Society and Kidsport for work they do in Airdrie.

"It benefits so many in our community," says Lori McRitchie with the Food Bank. "When they reach out and support those who are struggling, it just benefits all of us."

Angela Wright with ADVAS said the financial support is something they really needed at this time.

"It's been a tough couple of years with donations with the economy, so having a donation of this magnitude certainly will be beneficial in keeping our programs and services running."

Director of Community Links Brenda Hume said the continued support from the Oilmen's Association helps them out year after year, and that the donations are always welcome.

"It's been an amazing partnership that we have had with them. It's been great fun. Their funds will go towards our programming for those in need."

In total, $20,000 was raised at the Golf Tournament and was split between the different organizations.
