Airdrie's newest feature presentation drew one step closer to filming on Monday night (June 19th).

The film, tentatively known as "Highway Patrolman" held casting calls at the Victory Theatre, which Director Mitch George said went very well.

"We were kind of short on time with a summer shoot and we didn't expect a lot of people to show up and we got a line up going. We were pretty excited about that."

Those who took time to audition for roles in the film had all levels of experience. Some had stage experience, some had worked on films, and others came with no prior experience.

George said he appreciated the vast diversity.

"We don't want to restrict it to those who are big into the acting community. We want to make sure that everybody has a chance and everybody can actually explore their strengths, and maybe build into something that they didn't even know they had."

The film centers around the true story of a Highway Patrol Officer from Wyoming who deals with a teenager considering suicide. George said the deep story behind this film and the main character was one that can't be ignored.

"Once I started reading into it and getting more involved into who this guy was, things unfolded. I was able to get a hold of his wife who's 93 and lives in Texas. She just uncovered this story that compelled me to write this script. I couldn't toss it up."

"Highway Patrolman" is set to film in Airdrie and Crossfield later this summer.
