Local musician Dana Jones knows all too well the challenges within the music industry, but those challenges couldn't prepare her for the potential loss of her voice.

Last year, Jones discovered a tumor that resulted in 3 surgeries that left her vocal cords damaged from the breathing tube.

The damage caused the vocal cords to weaken, leaving Jones feeling like she wanted to give up but she she didn't.

"It was sickening to see something that you love to do kind of vanish, eventually I just kind of gave up on it cause I didn't think I was ever going to be able to perform again, but luckily for me I have an amazing support team behind me and I was able to jump back on the train."

Turning to her vocal coach, she was able to start using vocal exercises to strengthen her vocal cords to begin singing again.

It has taken six months of exercises but Jones feels she is finally back to her old self.

After going through this experience, Jones walked away with a good piece of advice.

"People are going to tell you that you can't do something but that's a lie, you can do absolutely anything you want to do, you just have to make it happen."
