The Airdrie Lioness Club has an urgent need for donations for their Christmas hamper program.

"We've had 60 new families come through the door that need a hamper and qualify for a hamper, and I've still got a handful that I still need to reach out to, so groceries, toys, teen gifts, we are depleting everything," said Vice-President Cindy Savitsky.

Savitsky said the Lioness Club has never turned a family in need away, and they don't plan to start this year. However, there is a gap between the amount of donations they've recieved and the amount they need to fulfill all the hampers they will hand out this year.

"It's definitely between 60 and 70 more hampers that we have to build. We have to have the groceries for them, we have to have a gift card for the older couples or teens, and toys for some kids."

Savitsky said they need the donations before the end of the week.

"We need those donations as soon as possible. We have at least 60 to pack, and to make up a hamper we need them now and the hampers go out for delivery on Saturday afternoon."

There is no list of needed donations, but Savitsky said priority items are non-perishable food items, Christmas gifts and gift cards. Savitsky also said people can stop by their centre at the old fire hall to find out what exactly is needed before shopping.
