Christmas can't come soon enough for the ladies of Cochrane Light Up.

Co Chairs Stephenie Shelstad and Marni Fedeyko are looking to kick off summer right with "Summer Light Up' on June 25 and 26.

A two day event that will include Star Wars: The Force Awakens, family games, a variety of art, music, mini golf, ponies, beer gardens and possibly even St. Nick himself.

The ladies say with a down turned economy they had to think differently this year when it came to putting the event on.

"With sponsorship being down this year and not getting a lot of sponsorship in, we decided to have a charged event for anybody over the age of 9."

Shelstad says all proceeds raised from Summer Light Up will be rolled into helping to pay for their next two holiday events 'Cochrane Light Up and Holiday Parade of Lights.'

Bringing large scale events to Cochrane is important to the duo, as both ladies have young families.

"This is a very young town to be living in and people are always looking for things to do. We would like to keep the people in Cochrane, use our shops in Cochrane, go into our stores, buy our gas"

Shelstad says although planning takes its toll with juggling kids, full time work, and home projects; the two absolutely love what they do.

"Every time this year, Marni and I start to get frustrated and ask ourselves why we do this, but then we look at each other at the end of the event and we know why we do this; seeing everyone smile makes it worthwhile."

This is the second annual two day summer event executed by the ladies, and many performers from last year will be back out this year.
