A member of the federal Liberal Caucus was in Airdrie last night (March 13th) speaking to Liberal supporters about the current state of government.

Anita Vandenbeld, who currently represents the riding of Ottawa – West Nepean explained what brought her to Airdrie in the first place.

“I’m originally from Calgary, I grew up here, I went to University here. One of the things that I know, having been a Liberal in Alberta is that it really makes a difference when you have Members of Parliament from other parts of the country come and talk.”

Vandenbeld, who was first elected in 2015, is on a tour of Southern Alberta as she hopes to hear from many supporters on what the government is doing and what they’d like to see in the future.

“When you don’t have Members of Parliament from the governing side, a lot of the message doesn’t always get through and so one of the things that I think is very important, at least for the really strong Liberals, is to be able to ask the questions and hear the really, really good things that we’re doing.”

Vandenbeld touched on many aspects of the recent Federal Budget and what the Liberals plan to do before the 2019 Election.

She said it’s important, not only for her but for other MP’s to reach out beyond their riding.

“When you travel across the country, you realize that you often get ideas and solutions that are different. There are innovations happening in different parts of the country and I think it’s very helpful to be able to cross-fertilize some of those ideas and innovations and bring those ideas to Parliament.”
