The Cochrane Legion is dressing up the Cenotaph site with a bronze monument of a WWI soldier.

The soldier will be standing in perpetual guard at the Cenotaph in honour of the fallen who have fought for Cochrane and our Canada.

Comrade Dave Usherwood, indicates the Legion has stepped up to take the lead on this project.  Todd Posey, also a Legion member, wanted to do something more permanent for remembering the fallen soldiers, so the idea of this monument was created two years ago

Usherwood says this project is a community initiative and will be looking for local businesses and organizations to help fund the bronze and design of the monument to be created by local bronze forgers, Studio West.

Underwood says they are needing to raise $25,000 by March and is confident Cochranites will support the Legion for the project. The timeline has been set in order to have the soldier monument unveiled before Remembrance Day.

"The goal is to move the project forward, and I am confident the community will respond and this project will be done. I don't doubt that the community is behind us, behind the project and behind our vets."
