Social drinking is a big part of our society but do you know how much is too much?

To promote and teach responsible drinking, the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission has launched DrinkSense.

Anne Eichmann with the Foothills Fetal Alcohol Society, said alcohol itself is not taboo but it is very important to bring awareness to the dangers it could pose in certain situations.

"Social drinking is huge and a lot of people aren't quite realizing how social drinking can also affect when you're driving and it could also affect when you're pregnant."

As an advocate for the awareness and prevention of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, Eichmann said that it is crucial that women who are pregnant or trying to conceive do not drink alcohol.

"A lot of times, women aren't aware that they are pregnant during their first trimester and that is when a lot of developmental damage can be done and seen."

Eichmann said that binge drinking is also a common problem. According to DrinkSense, women should not exceed two or three drinks per day and 10 per week and men should not have more than three or four per day or 15 per week.
