Alberta Law Enforcement is doing their part to support the Special Olympics.

The 'Free Our Finest' fundraiser featured 3 officers camped out on scaffolding in front of the Airdrie Walmart.

"Special Olympics is very inspiring, and we have a lot of local athletes here, but I think this is one of their major events, and keeps them going and supports them for all of their activities," said Cpl. Susan Richter, one of the event's participants.

Participating agencies included RCMP, Alberta Sheriffs, Solicitor General Public Security Honor Guard, Canadian Military, Calgary Police Service, Alberta Animal and Municipal Enforcement Services, Airdrie Fire Department, and Fish and Wildlife Enforcement.

Members of the public were able to take in demonstrations, enjoy a barbecue, meet athletes and officers on site, and purchase merchandise.

Saturday featured a water balloon fight between kids and officers.

"The kids love being nailed with water guns and water balloons," said Richter. "They were given some extra ammunition courtesy of the fire department so the water balloon war was on."

Alberta Law Enforcement is one of the Special Olympics biggest supporters financially, through fundraising efforts like 'Free Our Finest' and the Law Enforcement Torch Run.

Donations were accepted on-site, with all funds raised going to the Airdrie Special Olympics.
