The City of Airdrie is currently running their Know Your Snow campaign in hopes to educate the public on what happens with City road crews when snow falls.

After the last three weeks of cold temperatures and snowfall, City crews have been working day and night to clear roads and ice.

Mike Avremenko, Team Lead for the Roads Department says the City has launched the Know Your Snow campaign so resident knows exactly what crews are doing when the white powder hits.

"The Know Your Snow Campaign is a cold notes version so residents can get online and see exactly what happens during a snow event. There is some history on the network, how many lane kilometres we are looking after and some things about the priority network and how to tackle the different routes.

The City of Airdrie Road Crews looks after 700-kilometre lane roads.

Crews are out and about 24/7 prior to snowfall, during snowfall and after a snowfall tackling priority roads first.

"Snow routes prioritization is council approved and essentially the busiest roads are prioritized as one, as highest service level and then we have our collector roads such as Meadowbrook drive and Kings Heights Boulevard and then our priority three consist of roads like rural roads."

The Communications teams use social media posts to alert Airdrie drivers as much up to date information as possible.

"I think our communications team does a very good job staying on top of snow events by using Twitter and so on, and I think the education on the front end helps educate residents on exactly what's going on out there."
