Your spare or unworn winter attire can warm up someone in need this winter.

The 'Jacket Racket' program is back for the 2018-2019 winter season, run by Community Links in Airdrie. The program serves to provide local Airdronians who are low-income or struggling financially with warm winter clothing such as jackets, hats, and mittens.

Amie Nelson, Community Support Worker at Community Links explains how the program works.

"People come into Community Links and if they express to the intake workers that they are in need of winter jackets or we do an assessment and we realize that they're in need of those things, then we connect them with those supports."

Local residents who are struggling are not the only group of individuals that the program helps. "Jacket Racket also supports newcomers to Canada with the jackets and other winter items," says Nelson.

The program is fully dependant on donations and Nelson explains what exactly is needed.

"Right now, we are in need of all sizes of jackets, specifically adults. We're also in need of boots for children, gently used boots for adults, mittens, and toques as well."

The Jacket Racket program runs from September to March and people are welcome to stop by Community Links any time to drop off donations.

The centre is located at 211 125 Main Street NW in Airdrie.
