The Calgary International Airport (YYC) opened the new International terminal yesterday (October 31) to all guests and passengers.

Henry Stevens, Director of Corporate Communications for the Calgary Airport Authority, said that the construction of the new terminal began 5 years ago.

"Initial planning for this project started about 14 years ago, construction started back in 2011, so it's been a journey to get here but it's just wonderful to be able to provide access to the new international terminal for our first arriving and departing travelers to the United States and internationally."

Stevens said the new terminal has 24 additional gates which will double the size of the terminal facilities at YYC.

The Airport Authority anticipated that the new terminal would accommodate 13,000 passengers on the 130 additional flights internationally in their first day.

Last year Stevens said that YYC had 15.48 million passengers pass through their gates, which he expects will increase with the new terminal and additional flights.

"We've got great connectivity to more than 80 non-stop destinations from YYC."

For travelers using the new international terminal, parkade B, which will be marked in blue is the best option for parking and dropping off.
