Last night (November 28), Airdrie RCMP arrested a 24 year old woman for impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

Around 11:30pm, police received a call about a possible impaired driver almost colliding with a house in Sagewood.

"The caller reported that somebody had drove up onto their lawn, almost colliding with their house and in doing so lost a bumper and a front tire," said Cst. Dan Martin, "The vehicle then obviously left the area."

Thanks to subsequent calls from the public, police were able to locate the vehicle in a residential area eight kilometers from the original scene. The driver was arrested and then released on a promise to appear in court in Airdrie.

Further investigation pieced together what had happened.

"It was basically determined that the driver had failed to negotiate a turn, they went over a curb and onto the lawn of that residence in Sagewood and almost struck two houses. Neither house was damaged, just some cosmetic damage to the lawns and what not in the area. One vehicle had been struck as well."

Cst. Martin said the community is often instrumental in these types of cases.

"The RCMP obviously can't be in all places at all times, so we rely on the community to report impaired drivers when they see this or when they believe they've seen an impaired driver."

The woman's name has not been released to the media, as charges against the woman still need to be sworn.
