After the announcement on Tuesday, October 25, that the Alberta Government had removed public funding for Trinity Christian School, the phones have begun to ring off the hook at the Airdrie MLA office.

Trinity Christian School offered home schooling options for a large number of students in Airdrie, who are now facing the prospect of having to find another home schooling option within the next 2 weeks.

The school lost their funding in light of allegations of inappropriate expenses, conflicts of interest, and retaining $988,000 in unclaimed parent funding over the past three years.

Angela Pitt, Airdrie Wildrose MLA, said that she was surprised to learn just how many kids from Airdrie were registered in home schooling.

"I've gotten quite a few phone calls from parents and families here in Airdrie. It's really unfortunate to see that 3500 children are now out of school."

Pitt who shared her displeasure in how the current government has handled the situation will be looking for answers now that the legislature is back in session.

"The process itself is extremely unfortunate, I think this was very mishandled by the government and parents right across this country are left in the lurch."

The allegations against the school board are serious, and Pitt understands that measures have to be taken, but she wants to understand why the NDP government was so abrupt in their decision.

"If the government knew about this for many many months, why wasn't this decision made before the school year started? and allow for families to have time to make other arrangements."

Pitt said that for many families, finding a home school option that meets the needs of both the children and the families takes time and cannot be done in 2 weeks.

"This is very stressful for families, this is stressful for kids, and I don't think this decision was made in the right head space where children were being put first."
