Temperatures in Airdrie are expected to reach the mid-thirties this week.

The hot temperatures over the next week bring increasing chances of Heat-related injuries and illness.

Dr Jason Cabaj with Alberta Health Services says there are some risks when it comes to this kind of temperature.

"well there is a range of health effects with exposure to heat, it can be heat cramps or up to the most serious, Heatstroke."

Heat stroke is caused when the body can no longer regulate its own body temperature.

Cabaj also says it's important to limit your exposure while outside.

"I think in general try to avoid prolonged exposure for a long period of time, whether that is rescheduling any outdoor activities you have or limiting labour in the heat."

There are a number of warning signs to heat exhaustion and heat stroke such as a lack of sweat, confusion or worst case scenario loss of consciousness.
