Recent George McDougall graduates made a much needed donation to the Airdrie Food Bank on Wednesday, August 10.

Alexandra Epp, Brady Moore, Erinn Jones, and Jessica Sutherland all presented a cheque for $2689.17 to Lori McRitchie, Executive Director of the Airdrie Food Bank.

The donation came from additional funds left over from the senior classes 2016 graduation celebration.

This years graduating class chose to add a local celebration in addition to their Grad held at the BMO centre in Calgary, hosting a 'Family and Friend Celebration' that utilized local businesses.

The event sold out with 300 tickets being sold. Thanks to a large majority of volunteers, the event was able to save close to $3000.

"We mainly worked on just volunteers," said Erinn Jones. " We had a group of five moms that all worked together and they tried to organize everything, and then there were a lot of students that helped out."

Brady Moore said that hosting a celebration in Airdrie was a way to help out local businesses that in turn was also able to benefit the Airdrie Food Bank.

"It's the thought that if you grew up here and you owe something to this community that's helped raise you, you've been through school here, the only reasonable thought as to when you have the opportunity to give is to give back directly into the community."

The four graduates were also able to donate $225 to the Alberta Children's Hospital from sales from a Candy bar at the celebration.
