During Monday (July 4) nights City Council meeting, council approved the motion to maintain the current fee structure at Genesis Place.

Genesis has experienced a 25 per cent decrease in revenue from the sale of their annual passes, translating to the loss of 600 adult passes in 2015.

Even with the loss, the Community Services Advisory Board felt it was important to maintain the current fees due to the state of the economy.

In a cost break down, Genesis relies on admission fees to cover 44 percent of facility costs, with 19 per cent from rentals, 17 percent from program fees, and the other 20 per cent is made from tenant leases, staff passes and the county grant.

In 2015, the pool was also closed from August 1 to October 31, causing a reduction of nearly 3000 lesson spaces in the aquatics program throughout the year.

Although Genesis Place is looking to increase revenues in 2016, they will still maintain the participant support program, providing a 50 per cent reduction in cost to families who qualify, as well as the exercise prescription initiative.
