After undergoing maintenance through most of the summer, there's good news for swimmers at Genesis Place.

"Our pool is open and ready to go. All five bodies of water have water in them. They've been heated and treated and ready to go," said Manager Greg Lockert.

The pool areas officially opened as of yesterday (September 13th) but some parts of the aquatic centre remain closed.

"The only amenities that are not currently operating is our waterslide, our jets in the lazy river and our spray toys," said Lockert, "The spray toys were delayed on arrival and they will be here, we're roughly estimating around September 22nd."

Lockert hopes to help ease the burden of regular maintenance at Genesis Place by developing a 2 year plan, where they'll know well ahead of time when to close the pools for a few weeks to complete their repair work.

"Being the environment that the pool is designed in, it's hard to get in here and do maintenance in the pools without these long term shutdowns of a month or so. Most pools in Alberta and around Canada will close down for a two to three week period every second year to do this kind of maintenance and we just need to start doing this as well."

Lockert and other staff at Genesis Place hope to present that proposal to City Council in the near future.
