Gas prices in Airdrie have been on a rollercoaster over the past two weeks.

Just a couple weeks ago gas prices sat around the $1.30 per litre mark and as of today (October 26th) prices have dropped to $1.12 or $1.11 per litre.

Dan McTeague, Senior Petroleum Analyst with Gas Buddy says stations may be losing money at this retail price.

"We need to know that right across central and southern Alberta are sitting around 112.9 per litre and that is their bottom line, anything below that price and gas stations is likely losing money."

McTeague warns that we may see what he calls "Gas Bar Shenanigans".

"We will often see gas stations try and find an average, they may lose it for a couple days and the increase it dramatically for a couple days or a week or so process. Their noses are slightly above the water line and it may be frustrating for motorists but its also signs of vigorous competition."

McTeague says that it's because of the cost of oil trading that we have seen this rollercoaster of prices.

"What was going on is international oil was trading around 76 dollars and 86 per barrell, that didn't help us in Canada because our oil is barely struggling at twenty-five dollars per barrel and that also means a weaker Canadian dollar."
