UPDATE: 1:55 p.m. Environment Canada advises that the earlier funnel cloud advisory that had been in place for parts of Rocky View County has now ended as conditions have improved.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Environment Canada has issued an advisory for part of Rocky View County.

The national weather service said conditions will be favourable for the development of funnel clouds today (Wednesday).

Officials say these types of funnel clouds are generated by weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms. It is normally not a danger near the ground. However, there is a chance that this rotation could intensify and become a weak landspout tornado.

People living in the affected areas are asked to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
