Over 70 years ago, Luxstone Manor resident Doug Curtis was serving in the Second World War and ready to jump out of a plane in a Para-Tropper mission.

Unfortunately, Curtis and his comrades never made that jump and the itch to finally carry it out was weighing heavily on the longtime Veteran.

So on June 8th, his 94th Birthday. Curtis suited up and set out to make a jump that some over half his age would be too scared to do.

In front of family and friends, Curtis completed a tandem skydive at Alberta Skydivers in Beiseker to fulfill not only an item on his bucket list, but to pay tribute to his brothers from the war.

After soaring to just over 12,500 feet, Curtis and Chief Instructor Dave Clarke took the leap of faith in the Beiseker skies.

Although the weather looked gloomy before boarding the plane, the winds died down making for perfect skydiving conditions and a safe landing.

You can imagine that Curtis was all smiles after reaching solid ground and says it's an experience he won't forget.

"I've done a few exciting things in my lifetime, but that about takes the cake...I just felt comfortable with it...it's really indescribable, it really is."

Chief Instructor Dave Clarke had another big surprise for Curtis on what was already a memorable 94th Birthday.

"It's on us (Alberta Skydivers), it's your Birthday present and to say thank you for everything you've done for us."

Clarke went on to say that this courageous jump is now in his history books.

"This is the oldest gentleman I've ever taken and 86 was my previous eldest and now I've got a record of 94."

Curtis, all full of adrenaline from the jump, says he'd do it again and so could you.

"I'd recommend it to anybody."
