If you were shopping at Home Hardware on Saturday, October 22, you may have received a free light bulb.

The light bulbs were being given away courtesy of FortisAlberta for their energy efficiency program, which is aimed at educating people on how to be energy efficient and save money on their electricity bill.

"Everybody's looking to save money these days, especially on energy costs. So this gives them a little bit of a head start," said Karl Bomhof, vice president of customer service with FortisAlberta.

Many customers were delightfully surprised at the offering of a free light bulb as they walked in the doors.

"We're on to our fifth year. We usually offer some kind of energy efficiency giveaway. This year, we're moving to dimmable LED light bulbs."

According to Bomhof, the event is well received every year.

"We get great response from our customers. Most of the people that come into Home Hardware are also customers of FortisAlberta, so it's a great synergy between us and Home Hardware."

October is also Energy Awareness month.
