This story is for people who love numbers.  Really, really big numbers.  If you're not into numbers, better stop reading now!

When you're using over 470 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of energy over the course of the year, an increase of less than 1.5 percent doesn't seem very significant.

That's the case for Airdrie and area in 2018, according to stats released by Fortis Alberta.  The Alberta energy provider has also provided figures on electricity consumption for Airdrie over the past year.

The total energy used in 2018 came to 470,738,656 kWh.  That's an increase of just under 6 million kWh from 2017.

Monthly comparisons show 2018 was, for the most part, pretty well on par with 2017 with only slight fluctuations.

The biggest monthly increase for the year came in February when we used 41,312,115 kilowatt hours compared with 38,269,516 during the same month in 2017.  That's an increase of just over 3 million kWh.

The largest month to month decrease came from December.  The mild weather in 2018 caused usage of 42,433,985 kWh.  In 2017, electricity consumption was 44,413,165 kWh, meaning consumption was down nearly 2 million kWh.

The growth from 2017 to 2018 of under 6 million kWh is far smaller than for 2016 to 2017 when our consumption went up over 18 million kWh.
