A former school principal is looking to write a new chapter in his career as an educator.

Jim Forrest, who previously served as principal at C.W. Perry School, is one of five candidates running for RVS Ward 3 Trustee in Airdrie.

Although he retired from his post as principal, Forrest said he still wants to make a difference for education in the city.

"I still want to be able to contribute to education in Rocky View and in particular Airdrie. I've been working at it now for 36 years and I just felt that this would give me another opportunity to be able to contribute in another way."

Forrest acknowledged that there are several issues to tackle, including transportation and yearly budgets, but at the end of it all students still need to come first.

"There's a lot of challenges and emotional kinds of things. Today's classroom is very different. I think that it's important that we continue to acknowledge that and that there's success, the potential for success for all these kids."

Now that Forrest has submitted his nomination papers, he hopes to reach out to voters through social media and would love the chance to talk to school councils as well.
