Brian Jean, the former leader of the Official Opposition in Alberta announced this week that he's stepping down from the Alberta Legislature.

Jean came into Alberta politics in 2015, when he was elected leader not long before the Provincial Election, where they won 21 seats to form the Official Opposition.

Before joining the Wildrose Party, Jean served as a Conservative MP for Fort McMurray-Athabasca from 2004-2014.

Airdrie MLA Angela Pitt worked with Jean since her election in 2015 and shared her thoughts on the man she hoped would one day be Premier of Alberta.

"I am absolutely honoured to have been able to serve under Brian Jean's leadership for the last two and a half years. He's been a mentor to me and will continue to be a friend and I wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours."

In a statement, United Conservative Leader Jason Kenney said that Jean's Legacy will endure in the party that he helped create.
