With Summer now over, the local food bank is gearing up for what they anticipate will be a busy fall season.

Executive Director, Lori McRitchie says that the summer months remained quite stable for those seeking help, but that quickly changed.

"They didn't continue to rise as drastically as they have in the past year so that was a good sign. When September hit, we really found an increase again. I just think that lots of families are preparing for back to school and have been hit with those added expenses."

On top of the great needs expected for September, McRitchie says the community support will and already has helped them out.

"On the flip side of that, we're busy as well with donations of garden produce and good quality food that's been coming in from the community which is just awesome."

The Food Bank has also started their school lunch and snack attack program which is helping over 3000 kids throughout the city.

Over the next few months, the Food Bank will be holding a number of events including their annual City Wide Food Drive this weekend and the Empty Bowl Festivals, which will help them through the fall months and into Christmas.
