Almost one full month into 2017, Executive Director at the Airdrie Food Bank Lori McRitchie says they have already matched their busiest month in 2016.

"Our numbers for January were equal to the highest month we had last year, so they haven't gone higher, but they are as busy as our highest month was, which was March of last year."

On top of a busy start to the year, the Food Bank is aiming to expand some of its programs in 2017.

"We're doing a school lunch program right now, where we're making lunches for school children, and we're providing about a hundred lunches a week and that's just for two schools in our community."

McRitchie says they hope to include more schools in the program as the year goes on.

With the volume of need and an aim to do more, the Food Bank can always use the community's support.

"Our website is always up to date on our most needed items, and that changes week to week depending on what's on sale at stores and what people are able to donate. Funds are always welcome as well, especially as we're moving forward in purchasing healthy food items for our school programs."
