Trying to fly anywhere in Canada can be just as stressful as taking out a mortgage, but one company is trying to fix that.

On April 20th, WestJet announced it will launch a new Ultra Low Cost carrier which VP of Marketing, Richard Bartrem said is a market no one is tapping into.

"There's nobody really addressing that yet here in Canada so we see this at present, an unaddressed market."

Bartrem said the new airline won't exactly appeal to the business class or those seeking the luxuries of travel, but rather for the average Albertan who just wants to fly.

"If you get to the other end where people are saying, 'I'm a bit more flexible with my time and with my schedule and I'm willing to forego some of the amenities that might have otherwise been available.' That's in search of a lower fare."

The announcement is not only good news for those frustrated with eye gouging flight costs but for the economy in general.

"This isn't a contraction story by any stretch of the imagination, it's a growth story," said Bartrem, "If we address a different market segment and get even more people traveling because we identified and served that market segment, then I think this is growth all around for everyone."

So far, Bartrem said there's no official date, or name yet for the new airline.
