The Airdrie Fire Department says that an unattended candle was responsible for a fire at a mobile home on Wednesday morning (August 23rd).

"Crews responded to the reports of a structure fire located in the 100 block of Big Hill Close Southeast", said Deputy Fire Chief Garth Rabel. "When they arrived, they discovered that a mobile home, which was sitting on a foundation or basement, they found a fire in the lower level."

The fire happened at around 4:00am on Wednesday, and thankfully those that were home at the time escaped safely.

Deputy Chief Rabel said that one person was assessed for minor smoke inhalation and quickly released.

The fire department is reminding you of the dangers that can come from leaving candles unattended.

"We have a saying in the fire service: If you go out, blow out. Which means if you're using fire candles, that's always a good, best practice."
