All she wanted to do was save for child's education and now an Airdrie mother is fighting to keep her money.

Laurena Pollock opened a Group RESP through the Canadian Trust Scholarship fund a few years ago. When she noticed that no interest was building she tried to transfer the funds away but was told it would cost $2200.

Pollock says that unfortunately, she's not alone.

"It's the same story I've heard now from about 8 different friends that are either in the same boat at this exact same moment or have just gone through it and just payed their fees to be out of it."

When she tried to resolve the issue, Pollock says the CTS tried to keep her in the RESP which she immediately refused.

"I want my money back, I understand there might be some administratice fees to do with transfer but they should not equal $2200 like that's 80% of what we had in there."

Pollock says she will continue to fight the massive fee and has some advice for anyone looking for an investment for their kid's future.

"If they're researching RESP's or if they have sales reps calling them to harras them to come to their house and the word group is in the word RESP plan, run for the hills!"
