Yesterday morning, a passing driver on a backroad between Airdrie and Calgary discovered two boxes full of family portraits.

The boxes were brought to the Airdrie RCMP detachment where RCMP are holding the boxes for the original owners.

Corporal Gina Slaney of the RCMP says the photos are in good shape and will likely be very important to whoever owns them.

"There are two large boxes containing many family portraits that are framed. The pictures are quite dated, so I'm thinking they would mean a lot to whoever lost them so we would really, really like the owners to be found so we can return them to them."

The RCMP are not sure as to how the boxes ended up on the ride of the road, however, Slaney assumes it was an accident.

"We're assuming that they fell off somebody's truck in transit. A passerby saw the boxes and was good enough to stop and realize that it was somebody's possessions, so he turned them into the detachment so we could try to find the owners."

Slaney encourages anyone who might have any information regarding the photos to contact the Airdrie RCMP detachment.

"If these photos could be yours or if you know who they may belong to, please call your local detachment. The pictures are at the Airdrie RCMP detachment, but even if you're not from Airdrie, we will find some way to return them to the rightful owners."
