Airdrie RCMP is warning the public after multiple groups travelling throughout Alberta are conducting gold jewellery scams.

Male and Female suspects have been approaching people in parking lots, gas stations and other public locations.

The suspects tend to offer fake gold jewellery for sale, as gifts or even to trade for gas. The jewellery is not real and is offered at extremely low prices.

Those involved in the scam typically provide a story such as having a broken or lost bank card and are unable to access their money to continue the trip.

Some suspects have even gone as far as involving children in the scam to make the story seem more real.

The suspects are generally driving new rental vehicles.

Police say that there have been 12 reported incidents in Airdrie in the last ten days.

RCMP say that if you're approached b any of these groups, you're to contact them at once.
