Airdrie RCMP will be working with Airdrie Municipal Enforcement to enhance presence and promote safety in school zones next week.

Most students will be back in school starting September 4th and according to RCMP, motorists will experience a higher than normal amount of traffic that day, especially near school zones.

The Airdrie RCMP and Municipal Enforcement will be increasing patrols in these areas to ensure safety for both pedestrians and motorist alike.

RCMP recommend giving yourself extra travel time the first week of school to help reduce the stress and frustration of the increase in motorists.

There are a number of traffic violations that motorists may be ticketed if failing to comply to the Use Of Highway and Rules of the Road Regulations.

This included a $776 ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian and Constable Dan Martin says he has seen that happen.

"Under the traffic safety act, there are some different tickets that can be written for those that fail to yield to pedestrians and that includes the $776 fine and I can say for sure that ticket has been written in the past."
