It's the night with all the glitz and glamour and local filmakers are stoked.

Airdrie's own Mitch George says he's more than thrilled for this year's Academy Awards because there's so many potential surprises.

"A lot of people haven't really heard of a lot of the nominees this year, they kinda fell under the radar this year, which is weird because in previous years it's always been a lot of big names and a lot of hype around it."

George says that even if you're not a fan of the Oscars, it's still a good time to enjoy what they celebrate.

"It's a lot of like what we do in Airdrie here with Mayor's Night of The Arts. It's a celebration of films that are coming through and to recognize a lot of the hard work that these directors and writers and actors do."

When asked about some of the big awards, George hopes that 'Moonlight' will take home the best picture over favourite 'La La Land'.

But when it comes to the musical awards, George and his family are so excited, you could say they 'Can't Stop The Feeling'.

"My 5 year old son is obsessed with the 'Trolls, Can't Stop The Feeling'. I hope Justin Timberlake takes that just because every child 8 and under is singing that everyday."
