Canada Post is warning residents of a recent email scam using their logo and a link that is supposed to track your package.

The company is reminding customers to not click on any of the links or open any of the documents.

The message are known as 'phishing' and the links and attachments could contain multiple viruses.

If you are not anticipating the arrival of a package, delete the email. If you are waiting on a package, do not click on the hyperlink, instead, go to www.canadapost.ca and track your package online.

To prevent a phishing attack, follow these tips:

  • If the message has poor English and spelling mistakes it is most likely not authentic
  • Hover your mouse over the link without clicking on it, if the address that appears does not match the link in the email it could be a virus
  • Never respond to emails asking for passwords or personal information, companies will not request these in an email
  • Never enter personal information into a pop-up screen
  • Do not use a link for banking within an email, always go to the banks site by typing in the URL
  • Protect your computer with a firewall, spam filters, anti-virus and anti-spyware software
